Multi-day WWII grand journey

A connected journey through some of the most important WWII sites in this part of Europe - Auschwitz-Birkenau, Lower Silesia, Stalag Luft III, Dresden and Colditz - with all travel and stays handled for you.

Multi-day WWII grand journey

Overview

This is our flagship multi-day route for guests who want to go beyond a single day at Auschwitz and see how different parts of the wartime story link together on the ground. Everything is arranged for you - hotels, transport, timings and entry - so you can focus on the places themselves.

Sample 4 day itinerary

Day 1 - Kraków and Auschwitz-Birkenau
We begin in Kraków with hotel pickup and a full-day hosted visit to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum. You follow a calm, clear route through Auschwitz I and II-Birkenau, with time for reflection and questions. Overnight in Kraków.

Day 2 - Gross-Rosen, Ksiaz Castle and Project Riese
Leaving Kraków, we travel west towards Lower Silesia. The day usually takes in Gross-Rosen (former concentration camp), Ksiaz Castle with its wartime tunnels and one of the Project Riese underground complexes linked to the "gold train" legends. Overnight in or near Wrocław.

Day 3 - Stalag Luft III and Dresden
We continue to the area around Żagań to visit Stalag Luft III - the prisoner of war camp from the "Great Escape" story - including its museum, reconstructed huts and tunnel remains. In the afternoon we cross into Germany and arrive in Dresden, where you have time to walk the rebuilt city centre. Overnight in Dresden.

Day 4 - Colditz Castle and return to Poland
On the final day we visit Colditz Castle, the former Oflag IV-C officer prisoner of war camp, with its museum and escape stories. In the afternoon we travel back towards Poland, finishing in either Kraków or Wrocław depending on your onward plans.

Customising the journey

The exact route can be adapted to the time you have and what matters most to you - for example extra time at Auschwitz, more focus on Lower Silesia tunnels or a slower pace with more time in Wrocław or Dresden. We design the journey together over email before confirming.

As with all our routes, this is a hosted experience in a private vehicle - not a large coach tour. At memorials and museums you walk at your own pace with a map and suggested route, while we handle timings, entry and the practical side of the trip.
